Ah, the season I constantly wait for is now just mere DAYS away, but it’s already here in spirit.

The EEEvents are going off this month with pride events galore, PLUS, I’m thrilled to be picking up the food series where we left off in April with Chef TROI LUGHOD of Pia and Gotham Creamery at a cool new space in Downtown Manhattan, on JUNE 25th! We’re doing summery tostadas and homemade ice cream with infused toppings— you won’t want to miss it!

Joining up a new sport can be scary! Personally I find myself drawn to the idea of Motorsport helping to get us off of cars as individual transportation, vs promoting it outright, but that’s a debatable concept. 🌈

TWO-FER: Importance of a great nail artist and ARTHRITIS GLOVES

Having nice nails feels like part of my artist life force. Looking down at someone else’s beautiful art while I make my own takes the experience to the next level.

While some rock with the natural look, I like to have shining masterpieces on all ten fingers for a long list of reasons. The aesthetic is a mood brightener, a sunny bit of delight to carry me even through the worst days.

This month I went for spicy hot neon with multi chrome accents. It helps when your artist (Anna Manifest!) is brilliant, funny, and devoted to the ArTs.

Wow who would have thought I’d get to a point of not being able to type without finger support? Not I! But here we are. As noted above, having cute nails sure helps with the whole mental load of body probs. Finding a cute affordable supportive aid has me feeling like Dolly Parton 😉.

I’ve also been using tape and finger sleeves with varying results, but it seems that my pinky has decided that it’s upper knuckle has revolted from the order of her brothers and sisters, and she’s called the DIP knuckle because she wants to dip off of this hand outright.

Thank dog for nail looks and gloves that squish my hands to keep them stable as I put my toe in the aging pool 🤣.

Imagine making 600K and tearing down the flyers of someone you were paying 60K, who is trying to unionize. Hand tearing down the flyers, and being offended that they were put up by his kid’s school 😈 not offended at layoffs and poor working conditions at his firm. The rich enforce a decorum that is often theft of dignity, and when you do anything to chip at theirs, the response is swift and brutal.

Its this exact power dynamic and reaction that stops lawsuits and other things meant to equalize this discrepancy. The overpaid Nich Carlsons’ and others at the top of the media pyramid— the ones who insist to investors that there is money to be made in reporting the news, make plenty of their own, and then leave investors AND workers in the lurch—they’re the turds behind this parched and sustenance-less landscape that media lives in now.

THIS IS THE CONTENT that I want from food writers, and from New York writers. Instead of shouting out a restaurant and then doing your own version of their recipe, dig deep!

Here we’re going so far back in time that Crown Heights and Prospect Lefferts Gardens were not yet neighborhoods—it was called PIGTOWN (today years old, y’all, today years old) and it was a diverse neighborhood on the edge of old farmland.

It was there that workers personally asked for someone’s homemade Italian food, and a grocery became a deli. It was there that a recipe was shared from owner to owner, before residing with it’s current keeper, an NYC immigration full circle story. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, and now want to try the sandwich as much as I do. 🍝

One thing I have been begging of all of the men in my life, brothers to brothers from another mother to partners to fathers and father figures: get in tune with your emotions and your communication style and start to understand how you present and take up space in this world.

If you are claiming to be an ally, that REALLY comes with some self analysis that, no offense guys, I’m just not seeing it come in at the depth needed to make real change.

I’ve even worked jobs where the same guy who swears he is an ally is cutting you off from leading a meeting on International Women’s Day. It was so comically fucked, to this day I belly laugh at how dark and how bleak it can be sometimes. And thats just gender shit. As noted many times, folks with other marginalized identities deal with this AND MORE.
