We’re really doing this: the first 4/20 with legal shops open in NYC! I for one won’t be stopping by any one thing for long— too many fun sessions to drop in on (see the EEEvents section!)— but I’m excited to hear how this new pocket of the industry handles the High Holiday and all it’s deals, DJ sets, and other special April activations. 🌿

This installation of DG, there’s an obvious tilt towards IRL happenings, with so much 4/20 celebration going down, but the LINKS ⛓️ are juicy as always, the reccos, quality at every price point, and no matter what brings you here, I’m grateful for you!

Life moves fast, so having this space to pause twice a month and take stock of things, including what’s behind and what’s down the road, has been surprisingly grounding in a world full of quick-hit content that I, too, am immersed in on the daily. I get truly excited to collect links and tidbits throughout the two weeks in between these bulletins — it feels less a blog and more of an information hub, to borrow from Roman Roy— my ADHD would have it no other way.

Here’s a NON weed post on this 4/19– make your own aperitif! Honestly, this is one of my favorite at-home drink concoctions, hands down, and anyone who’s been following awhile can attest that I make A LOT of concoctions.

You can absolutely hack this recipe, inspired by Samin Nosrat, inspired by a Spanish Aperitif, inspired by errant backyard citrus, to suit your climate, tastebuds, or your budget.

I’ve converted so many people to this over the years but not via writing about it, or really even posting much about it— just via skincare conversations and on my end, a genuine appreciation for this product. She seems useless, a splash of semi funky water? What is this doing? Talk to the rice gawds: this product came from observing the hands of sake brewers, so the lore goes, and my face has loved it going on 10 years now.

Truth be told— I could not always afford it! Even this bottle was a birthday gift! (Thanks Giu!) but dupes (and there are a few) have not always hit. This mid-size bottle also lasts about months, so it’s more of an up-front investment than a monthly expense. What is it doing? I don’t know other than when I don’t use it, my skin looks worse for the wear, both the lovely acne I carry well into my 30s and the wrinkles I’m pretending not to see, so that’s also a major key— it’s not only an ‘anti aging’ product to me, it’s a balancing, moisture-infusing mystery splash. And it’s actually worth it!

LOW: Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 🍊

Don’t worry— I don’t always skincare beyond my means. Point: This The Ordinary under-10$-vitamin-c-gloop. It’s $7.80, shelf stable, aka doesn’t oxidize, and mixes well with other moisturizers when I use day or night. On its own it can sting and feel drying, so you’ll typically find me mixing it, but I use for the acne calming and pluming properties of vitamin-C in a waterless format.

IMHO the only vitamin C this good is the beloved SkinCeuticals Ferulic C+E and shes out of the price range now, hon. Grab two every time you buy as they tend to be sold out, a tube lasts me roughly three months, just right for a volatile product like vitamin C where you want to use it in a certain timeframe after opening.

Nothing is sacred in the ‘wellness’ world and apparently WaterTok is a place for advice on using rainbow-colored, flavored to the nines (but sugar free) ‘water’ to shut to down hunger. I am never not taken to the depths of despair by the new ways to spin disordered eating. Sometimes I wonder if even covering this, then me, covering the coverage, contributes to new people being exposed to, and potentially harmed by being exposed to this info. I say this as a person who also has to drink a certain amount due to meds, interpreting the cram some of us have to do as a diet tip is a huge bummer. 🧊

We’re not going to know the full effects of the special flavor of fascism that’s been floating around for some time, if ever. Even innocent bystanders and folks living nearby to teargas deployments in Portland in 2020 during the George Floyd Protests experienced harm and symptoms ranging from chronic pain to reproductive disease. The protesters and the larger movement has been stressing for some time— the machine doesn’t care if you were part of the march if you get caught in its jaws. The machine doesn’t care who you are, or if you’re white, any safety you derive from your perceived status is false. If you’re on the wrong side of the machine —whether intentionally or by accident, you’re on the wrong side of the machine. ☄️

Let it die! It’s been hard to pinpoint why being at the whimsy of apps that literally hate you and censor you is so depressing. Yeah, really hard to put my finger on that one! Really, this gives so much insight not only into social media’s decline, but tech, and potentially cannabis too. The speculator crap is really where there’s a problem, scooping out the middle of labor transactions and providing no value to the laborer or the customer, ya know, all that foundational crapitalism crap.⚡️
