Make My Day

💐Flower Shop Rooftop Party TOMORROW! 💐

We’re gonna leave the rant alone and cut right to the chase this month:

In no secrecy whatsoever I’ve been working hard all summer NOT just on a rooftop party but on an epic disco, house, and freestyle mix to accompany it. Doing hours on hours of the digital equivalent of crate digging, I made it my purpose in life to get my 80s-90s-00s dance music collection shaped into something I could be proud of.

Just a few weeks ago I was scared to share a 30 minute practice mix—now I’m dropping four hours of JUST dance music. NOT genre spectrum-ing as I usually do, which seems daring, but I feel oddly safer playing everything than having to commit to one type of tune. Progress!

So if you went to teen night, wish you went to teen night, grew up a vicarious club kid, a vicarious disco kid, or a vicarious rave kid, your dance music favorites should be covered whether you’re in your 70’s or your teens.

The early aughts are in fashion, after all. Sorry to all my fabulously 2000s cosplaying folks under 21 (including lots of my fellow students 😅) but this is a 21 and over event. I think some people are bringing babies, though. Babies are welcome— they’re getting baptized in the faith.

FOR NOW— you can only hear the mix TOMORROW at Ti Voglio Bene: RSVP HERE

We’re New York-ing Italian aperitivo—think snacks, bouncing beats, and COMPLIMENTARY Select Aperitivo spritzes for the first hour?!

All at The Flower Shop Rooftop at The Walker Hotel in Tribeca <3

Speaking of Spritzzzzzzes

This was a cute RTD on California shelves that I certainly took for granted. A not-too-sweet and perfectly complex citrus can of joy was at spots like Bi-Rite and indie grocers who specialized in non-alc. But she is not NA! Deliciously low-ABV, this is sippable enough to have a few without coating the palette or nuking it with sweetness. I hope to see it become more widely available, for now I’ve only spotted in SF and LA.

It reminds me of the orange-fortified wines I used to make back in Oakland, which I also covered in recipe for Lifehacker a while ago if you ever want to try!

Revelry has been working to build the NYC market for a minute!

If this is the future of celebrity journalism I’m terrified for us. It’s gross to read this, and I hope it felt gross to write, and the grossness had nothing to do with BC and her clothes or lack thereof or even that analysis, which was interesting. It was the beginning where I got the ick. While the writer may not be trying to grease the gears of the machine with our blood, sweat, and tears, this is part of the musk/dump/loserification of celebrity culture as it merges with ruthless capitalism and sheds its veneer of countercultureism. Actors, musicians, and yes, writers too, used to stand against culture by choosing to shape it, not open the floodgates wider with personal brands and constant marketing to us. It’s really not ‘enjoyable’ to feed this machine anymore.✨

See above. While there’s a wealth of increased visibility on social for new voices and talent in both design, the marketing of those designs, and the critique of those designs, the old guard still reigns. And the tower is rotting: They chose fast fashion. Sewing cannot be done by a robot. This moved production from one human’s hands to anothers’, and we know how different bodies hold value in this system. We can’t devalue the same labor in different hands. 🤌🏼

Maybe I’ll just include an endo link in every edition. But maybe not. After all I have a new illness to add to my collection. Oh look, we have to do our own research studies, too. 😂
