Green Month is HERE

Time to bloom 🌸

Sigh 🥀

Summer cannot come any faster for me. My first winter back packed a PUNCH, y’all. I survived on smoothies (thanks BlendJet, lol)🍓, pizza 🍕, and a prayer🥀 and made it out one millimeter at a time.

Persisting, I do it, so let’s do this.

APRIL 2023 is the return of something I’ve always been passionate about: fun cannabis events! Collaborating with some of my favorite folks in the biz (food, weed, or BOTH), taking over Grand Rising Social Club at Rise Radio— an iconic community space with experimental programming that includes music, art, movement, food, bevs, and the occasional herbal entertainment like ours.

I’m UP TO THINGS, OKAY?! So while I can’t share much more on other happenings, bring yourself (or invite your NYC friends) to our Mini Food Fest and keep an eye on the second April newsletter for more invites, insights, and special announcements.

Hit the buying guide for innovative or delectable reccos, and in the EEEvents section, your passport to the NYC FOOD FESTIVAL FOR APRIL! 🍟

PLUS! A fun events announcement for May!

LATEST: 😎💨

Can we get a hearty LOL going that this story by my colleague Andrew Ward literally opens with a salty Dan quote?

Danielle “Dan” Guercio, a New York-based cannabis writer and creative, felt that cannabis news stories had to focus on “a brand, celeb, political or science angle” to get featured.

“The only culture stuff we get is from the same five dudes and their friends,” she said via LinkedIn comments.

“There’s a little bit of an echo chamber happening in the professional space right now—too-similar circles circulating too-similar information,” she told me in a follow-up chat.

ME, LOL😎

But don’t take my word for it. Read more to hear what other canna die hards think about this topic— THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE AUTHENTIC CANNABIS CULTURE COVERAGE FROM DIVERSE VOICES in all types of media and content to get rid of this shitty, racist, ableist, crap standard we still have.

It’s why all 99 of us cannabis writers now have our own newsletter *rimshot*😈

INFLUENCED: Buying Insights 📲

Numark DJ2GO📀

This is the best thing I bought while I was employed enough to just buy random things. It packs LIGHT into a backpack or reasonable sized tote, and is incredibly intuitive to use, like most controllers.

Unlike most controllers, and most mini controllers, this dude has a loop, sampler, AND hot cues available on the pads.

If none of that made sense to you but you’re interested in DJaying, playing music for friends and family, or know a child who is— even my lil nephew could enjoy playing around with this thing, and its just downright FUN!

My only real critiques: if you’re NOT a beginner, this doesn’t work with Serato DJPro, only DJ Lite. Howevaaaaa— it works great with the Algoriddim app— which I accidentally bought a years worth of while testing out this controller, and now I can literally DJ ‘internally’ or on ANY controller from ANY of my devices!! Big time convenience even though it’s not my preferred interface.

Emotional Support Water Bottle 💸

I did not want to covet this water bottle so hard, as I thought my basic ass 40oz Simple Modern one was affordably doing the job. After getting more than a few ads, obviously I was being influenced HARD on this gorgeous but expensive ($52!!!) bottle. It was infuriating that this brand wasn’t available anywhere, no discounts could be had, even after signing up for their mailing list (lol) but I still wanted it.

How do I feel six months later after getting iNFLueNceD? Uhh no ragrets. I even bought one for my Ma. It keeps things dramatically colder, is easy asf to clean, and I can clearly taste the difference between water sources every time I refill, which is a bit specific, but important to me! The water in NJ tastes gross in comparison to NYC! 😹

Pro tips: get a silicone boot to protect the chrome finish unless you like an hourly DONG sound like in Glass Onion every time you pick it up to drink. I also added a vinyl wrist ring to make it more portable when my arms are full.

It’s time to talk about the evolution of ‘Italians being mad at food’ as a once-comedic meme genre. While I wholeheartedly agree with, support, and back the documentation and denotation of heritage agricultural products and traditions, I’m sick of the nationalist air of some of the gatekeeping done by today’s boot dwellers— especially when it’s pointed at those Italian immigrant cultures abroad, or those immigrating to Italy.

I can’t really control that both sides of my family left the Mezzogiorno at different eras due to poverty and misgovernment by BOTH Italian Republics (including the current one) in BOTH mass migrations, but I can control how pissed off I’m getting at Italians’ insistence on WHO is Italian and who isn’t — especially in the context of food.

Is Italian food among the most interpreted cuisines out there? Sure, but it’s also an amalgamation of imported ingredients, ancestral traditions, and oftentimes, the innovation driven by hunger and poverty in the case of Southern Italian food. If we didn’t adopt the food cultures of others, our food wouldn’t even exist, hello, tomatoes?!

It was funny and cheeky to see everyone bitch and moan about bad pizza, but it’s getting to a point of fascistic obsession with many folks, especially online. Stay incazzato that an Italian American made carbonara lololoolololl.🥓🥚🧀🍝

The scammery of cannabis knows no bottom. We just keep digging deeper into the bedrock of what could have been built upon, vs excavated. Reading more and more cases like this, where ‘successful’ brands or operators are letting shit roll downhill just means reevaluation of the industry at large is overdue. Why are we emulating and participating in financial and hierarchal social systems that not only don’t work for the plant— they don’t work for PEOPLE?

All cannabis aside— we need protections from everyday white collar crimes like wage theft, supplier ghosting, and all of the other paper cuts that contribute to a culture of growing feudalism. 🏰
