Will 2024 be the year to let go of perfectionism?

I come from the elder millennial realms of perfect eyebrows, perfect highlights, perfect copy (which, LOL at my ADHD ass thinking that was a good career move) perfect cocktails, and now what I’ve come to recognize as perfect disassociation.

But we are OUT HERE. (Some of us) are making TikToks, building generational bridges, trying to stem the tide of rudeness that used to sweep down from (some) elders to the youth, trying to stay…(ew) cool? Hahahah. Yikes.

Who could ever be perfect and why did we ever try? Let’s heal those wounds, wherever they are. Some are on our bodies, some in our minds—hearts beating with the memories of staying in tune no.matter.what.

A friend called me the Pete Wells (NYTimes food critic) of DJs and I realized its why I ‘create’ and don’t perform: everyone’s a fucking critic until they’re the ones touching the decks, grabbing the pen, grabbing the mic.

LOL and perishing the thought of Pete Wells’ playlists aside, I actually felt called out! Of course I’m terrified to perform, I spent xxx years listening to everyone else doing it and having plenty to say (MUCH OF IT POSITIVE!!!!).

How could I ever live up to all these talented people who grew up in nightlife with me, many still in the mix or on to bigger stages.

I DON’T HAVE TO is the truth and the affirmation. I just gotta do me.
